    Mac Display information

Ah, found it in Technote HW30: http://mirror.informatimago.com/next/developer.apple.com/technotes/hw/pdf/hw_30.pdf Confirms that the diodes aren’t necessary. For the Multiple Scan 14”, just wire Sense1 and Sense2 together.

    Mac Display information

Does anyone have an Apple Multiple Scan 14 Display and a multimeter? One of the things I’m wondering about is the sense code for a multi-scan display that accepts up to 800×600. In my VGA adapter, this is indicated by wiring diodes both ways between pins 7 and 10. In theory, the computer could...

Oh, I assumed the 640×400 option was for Apple II emulation, but it’s the IIgs’s resolution, so that explanation doesn’t really make sense. And: So I take it that this is implicitly supported on 680×480 monitors.

    Mac Display information

I spent a while today getting my head around sense pins and timing for old Macintosh (DA-15) displays. Here is the writeup: Mac Tech: Displays This is a result of online information-gathering, a little hypothesizing, as well as probing my UnimacFly VGA adapter with a multimeter. Its dip...

Connecting a Mac Plus to SE/30 via LocalTalk

    Should work just fine.

mac classic ii and a wimodem

How are you connecting it? I see a modem with a DB25 port there, but it's a RS-232 serial connector, not SCSI.

scsi2sd issues/continued from savagetaylors blog comments

Was checking system versions before making a floppy. Have you tried System 7? The Classic II appears to be compatible with 6.0.8L but not standard 6.0.8, so maybe 7 is the proper System Software for it.

scsi2sd issues/continued from savagetaylors blog comments

If there were previously problems using the machine with SCSI devices, that may indicate a problem with the computer rather than the SCSI2SD setup. I don’t have experience diagnosing that kind of thing, though I’d think display problems would point at the analog board rather than the logic...

scsi2sd issues/continued from savagetaylors blog comments

You did turn termination back on while it was connected externally, right? Everything you’ve done sounds correct to me, so I’d continue swapping things out until you can isolate the problem. You don’t have the ability to boot from floppy or connect the SCSI2SD to another computer? You might...

    Sfiera’s Conquests

Relatedly, I noticed that the interior of the umbilical plug has “18-23” written in small text, which pointed me to a familiar-looking family of connectors.

Oh, FYI, this subforum is about personal collections, but if you’re reverse-engineering TAM stuff, that would make a great topic in https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/forum/14-pci-power-mac-amp-performa/.

    Sfiera’s Conquests

I’m not sure if a correct pinout has been reverse-engineered. It’s a 23-pin connector, right? I don’t even know what all those pins would be for. I would have expected two or three for sound, eight or so for power, but 23 sure is a lot of pins…

    Quadra 700 OS8.1 and M0437 ethernet transceiver

The “<···>” one? I did some testing. If I connect the machine to a router before booting, then the Ethernet extension loads fine. If I leave anything unconnected (machine to transceiver, transceiver to cable, or cable to router) then I get the red X as shown above. The extension is...

    Sfiera’s Conquests

I’ll keep it in mind, though I’m probably not going to make a call in the next month or two. It would probably be expensive, and risky given the plastics, to ship from Japan to Germany, though. About the CD cover: the hinge and latch mechanisms are fine, though there’s a scratch on the front:

    Quadra 700 OS8.1 and M0437 ethernet transceiver

I can’t speak to your specific situation, but I’ve used my Q700 with System 7 (stock install) and two different third-party adapters and there was no special software needed. Not hotpluggable, though. If I boot without first plugging it in, the Ethernet extension will be Xed out.

    Alternative LocalTalk cabling

Where are you getting your 3-pin cables? They seem pretty scarce these days.

    Sfiera’s Conquests

I haven’t decided what to do with the TAM unit itself. I can’t set up both TAMs, because I’d need a second bass unit, a second keyboard, and a second apartment. I really only bought it for the cards inside, and the smart thing to do would probably be to flip the unit, but first I’d need to work...

    Sfiera’s Conquests

Acquired a second TAM unit, and this one really does not look so good: But as they say, it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and what’s on the inside is: A Sonnet G3/500 accelerator A Sonnet Tango USB/FireWire PCI card An Ethernet Comm II card Plenty of RAM A fan? I...

Developing a portable user-land AppleTalk stack

I think the iBook must just have previously lived on another network. Changed it to 0xff00 manually and set it back to automatic, and that sticks. With some Wiresharking, I figured out part of why the Quadra wasn’t working as a client of Mini vMac. NBP responses include the address of the...

Developing a portable user-land AppleTalk stack

I implemented it but haven’t gotten it working again yet. Some observations: In EtherTalk (AARP), you can probe a request on any network, but that’s not possible under plain LocalTalk (LLAP) with an ENQ. I guess this isn’t that surprising, since ENQ is there to check for address collisions...
