    Macintosh Plus Oddness

Capacitors? Maybe on the analog board but You'd have more serious symptoms in this case (floppy loading erratically, strange display...). On the logic board there isn't any capacitor to replace in this machine. Install this on your SE and reformat your zip disk with it ;)...

    Macintosh Plus Oddness

Which version of the iomega driver did you use to format your zip disk? To boot a Plus, you need to downgrade to 4.2 or less, 5 or newer aren't fully compatible. You can see the version when you "get info" from the disk in the finder ;)

System 7 Will Not Complete Install

You make 2 "install me first" disks, one modified with the 404 enabler in order to start your mac and another untouched for the final step of the installation (original unmodified disk)

Odd icon in place of Apple Logo

As far as I can remember, the alarm clock does never ring on any mac, it just flashes the apple menu (and may beep once... not sure)

System 7 Will Not Complete Install

But wait a minute, You can't boot from your HD since the enabler isn't copied in your system folder... So you have to boot from a floppy disk in order to do this copy, but the only boot disk with the enabler on it is the "install me first" one... And this one doesn't allow access to the...

System 7 Will Not Complete Install

That's the reason!! The install process checks each floppy disk to see if it is unmodified, if it is it rejects the disk (this is why I always keep my installation floppies locked). In your case you added the mac TV enabler to your installation disk, so it isn't anymore as the installer software...

Odd icon in place of Apple Logo

Nevertheless, It would be wise to remove this pram battery since it isn't necessary to leave it installed to boot your mac, and unless you use it every day and want to keep up time and date, you'd probably forget it for a couple of months in a closet and have a bad surprise when you'll want to...

Odd icon in place of Apple Logo

It's the alarm clock! Open the related desk accessory and turn it off ;)

    Saving the SE and Plus

Ok for the WD40 but avoid the heads... unless you want to spoil your floppies ;)

System 7 Will Not Complete Install

Maybe the disk lacks the right "system enabler"... In this case, after this "incomplete" installation, you'll just have to add manually the "system enabler 404" and everything should be fine ;)...

Mac Plus strange boot up issue

Ok, Rom is surely the disease... try to borrow "known good" plus roms from a friend and try them in your macs, if everything goes well then you'll just have to either dump them or buy one from BMOW ;)

Mac Plus strange boot up issue

Maybe something else in the hardware of your mac plus, broken trace or component? What happens if you put the original roms of your plus in your 512ke? If it boots fine with them your plus mainboard may have a problem... Try it with different ram simms too

    Powerbook 140/50 problems

He never told "boot" disk but he said "blank" disk!! A blank disk is a disk with nothing on it...

    Powerbook 140/50 problems

Why should he replace the floppy drive? It's normal the mac ejects the disk if it is blank lol

    Powerbook 140/50 problems

Juror22 is right, dissasemble them in order to see and clean any leakage, pull the HDDs off for now, remove any ram extension, and try to boot them from a known good floppy. If you hear it loading the motherboard is pretty sure to be OK, next step, recap the screen ;)

    Powerbook 140/50 problems

I own many 1xx powerbooks and I always remove the dead batteries because if they are shorted they can destroy the power circuit of the powerbook... You can even remove the battery cover (a little bit hard to slide it completely off) and put it back on the mac to make it look better ;) The 150...

How to resurrect a Macintosh Portable?

Ok thank you! It's clear now, maybe it's time for me to invest in this kind of tool ;) In case I can't make it work nevertheless, is it possible to send my board to you so that you can fix it?

How to resurrect a Macintosh Portable?

The main problem is I don't own any tool to unsolder such a chip, my soldering iron would make more damage than anything else :(

How to resurrect a Macintosh Portable?

I can say the charge circuit seems to be ok: I let the battery and power adapter plugged last night and the battery which showed about 6.3V after my tests yesterday is now full at 6.55V this morning. I've just measured power draw from the battery more carefully (nothing but the battery and...

How to resurrect a Macintosh Portable?

Thanks for your answer, the swim isn't even warm, it's cold! I thought that when it was shot it would be quite hot? For the LCD I know but it works with my other portable and I'd like to keep the other parts of this mac is in their housing case for now, i'm just trying to make the logicboard...
