Correct me if I'm wrong. With most/all other "high-end" cards, QuickDraw acceleration doesn't kick in until 16 or 24 bit color depth. But because of the unique architecture of the Apple 8.24 GC, it provided acceleration regardless of the bit depth. I remember seeing some benchmarks a few...
Might be the photo, but to me it looks like UE10 has a bridge between 40 and 41 (where the bodge wire is attached), and another between 42 and 43 (a solder blob).
Yep that was it. Totally forgot about that one. Once I removed the analog board, the big wire jumper was obvious. It's back to normal deflection now and actually usable resolition, LOL. Thanks!
Hey folks,
Today I decided to "downgrade" my color classic to standard resolution. It was impractical for my aging eyes.
My CC was modded using the ribbon cable, so I purchased another stock harness, thinking that would do it. Looks like it worked in terms of resolution, but now my picture...
I had exactly the same issue before (with SE or SE/30, not sure). I ended up reflowing the solder joints on the flyback transformer AND on the neck board connector. All were cracked, and I suspect the neck board was actually the culprit but not 100% sure. The neck board solder joints were...
My personal opinion, Mac collectors are a different breed than Amiga collectors. I think the percentage of Mac collectors who would prefer to have a "newer better alternative" is low. I myself have a bunch of Macs that have been meticulously restored to practically new condition, inside and...
It should NOT be accelerating with QuickDraw acceleration turned off. You can just use a benchmark software like Speedometer, MacBench, Norton System Info, etc. The key, like others have said, is to set your color depth to 24 bit color. Then turn QuickDraw acceleration off, run the benchmark...
Depending on the CRT, they are usually secured either with a weak glue, or some rubber stoppers. If it's just glue like the SE CRTs, you can just grab the deflection coil firmly, push forward (toward the screen) and twist. Make sure you don't put any sideways pressure on the neck since it's...
I would recap it first before trying anything else. Those caps look ripe. Whenever I recap, I check the surrounding traces and vias and repair as needed.
I have a few SE accelerators with on-board RAM, and they are all very fast. Since the RAM is on the accelerator itself, it’s not limited by the SE bus speeds, so it’s actually faster than vanilla Macs with similar specs. If I remember correctly, my ImagePro 33 clocked like 2.8 times faster than...
I never found any documentation, but I do have it running in a SuperDrive SE, so it’s basically a faster SE/30. The RAM is pressure fit and there are plastic tabs that slide into the holes. I thought that if I try to push the tabs in, they might break. Best way I found of removing the ram is...
Here’s how you ACTUALLY fix a cube CD-ROM with a slipping eject mechanism:
The ejection roller consists of a long metal rod and a rubber surround (that’s actually two rubber tubes that meet in the middle). The rubber is just press fit on the rod. What happens with these drives is that over...
Did you go through the full Compact Virtual installation? I’m pretty sure that’s key (and you get to choose from a list of accelerators). I remember that sometimes i had better luck reinstalling with a less obvious accelerator option. You might try playing around with it. The extension icon...
