    As an anecdotal experience, my home has always been air conditioned/dehumidified, and of all the LCDs I’ve ever had, Ive never seen this even once.

    It all depends. Under 8.6, my PT Pro has no less than twenty five options just via the normal Monitors control panel, hardware and software mix.

    One other shotgun-approach would be to install 8.6 over the system folder you already have to see if it installs any missing items.

    Sometimes there are extensions missing that enable this sort of thing. I can't tell you what it is, but I have seen weird behavior like this before with that. By the way...why not just use 9.x?

    I didn’t realize that, I missed that part in your first post. Did you try and source a replacement SWIM to rule out chip issues?

    It is possible that the head is ever-so-slowly dying on the drive of your IIfx. Only thing I can think of. Alignment would throw all disks off.
