On that note I installed Windows 2025 server on a VM running on my 2012 Mac Pro. I think it took over a day to install.
I think it was because the VM was stored on an external 2.5 spinning rust hard drive.
I find that a C64 was pretty nice for the time. Disc access was extremely slow unless you had a fast-loader cartridge.
I recall waiting 20 minutes for a game to load, only for it to crash 10 minutes after starting a game. Wasn’t too happy with the computer after that.
Looks nice and chonky - should be a nice one to use. Wonder if it could be a hackintosh with the exception of the graphics.
I'm a fan of the 15" Thinkpads, but typically go with the T-series (and lately an E-series).
Last year I found a MDD 1.25ghz G4 at the thrift store, but the power supply was dead.
I ordered a ATX adapter cable and a SFF ATX power supply. It works, but I have the power cord going through the hole it would originally have plugged into the power supply from into the new power supply. I...
I’m using Macs Fan Control on this one too, but with the RPMs getting higher as it heats up. Depending on what it is doing, it will go up to about 1400rpm.
Upgraded to MacOS Sequoia 15.3 along with whatever Open Core Legacy Patcher downloaded and installed and the wireless now works when powering on for the first time. No more needing to reboot to get wireless working. Woohoo! 😁
Tomorrow I'm taking another online class from home, and will attempt...
Over the last few days I have applied fresh thermal paste to the GPUs. I was able to do the first one without the T8 security bit because the center post was a little worn. It was challenging to tighten the two screws for power delivery. Fortunately I was able to find a security bit in another...
I have no clue what the specs were. I just tightened them all together until they felt like they did when trying to take them off.
If the torque is that important, I do have an itty-bitty torque socket driver for 1/4” sockets. I think I have only used it when tightening the transmission pan...
Success! Honestly I thought the CPU upgrade was going to be harder than it actually was. Given how many laptops I have repaired over the years, working on the Mac Pro was downright easy. 😁
I have not reapplied the thermal paste on the GPUs yet since I wanted to make sure the processor upgrade...
I haven't upgraded the SSD yet (still the original 512GB unit), but would like to later with an adapter.
Wouldn't mind trying WIndows 10 via Bootcamp, but will wait until the processor upgrade is complete and a larger SSD is in place. MacOS and Windows feel a little cramped when both are on a...
The 12-core Xeon processor for the Mac Pro arrived today. However, I’m out of heat sink compound.
I ordered another tube and will work on it over the weekend.
I know the computer was upgraded from a quad-core to the 6-core processor since the seller sent the original processor...
