Whoops, missed the tag somehow,
I admit I have not run my headless iMonster for very long (because theres no fan cooling the CPU) but I have put it through quite a few boot cycles n things like that, and its been shockingly reliable, never had much in the way of issues with it all
my board...
so the answer to my question of "does a Gazelle ROM contain a ATI Rage Pro fCode image" would be a No then
worth keeping that in mind then that its likely even once the ATI Rage Pro is made to actually appear properly on the PCI bus, it wont actually work until theres suitable fcode in place...
Have you checked if the Power Macintosh 6500 BootROM has a suitable fCode image for the ATI Rage Pro? without it, it will just appear like an unflashed PC PCI card in a mac
its for similar reasons, that if you put a Wallstreet CPU card into a PDQ it will boot, but with no video, since the...
Oh, I am quite aware, see the Mac OS 8 CHRP thread elsewhere on here but I appreciate the heads up still :) for running 8.6 on unsupported systems you will still need my patched Mac OS 8.6 TBXI to act as a System Enabler in addition to Rairri's patched 10.2.1 TBXI :) (just place my TBXI in the...
Ditto! never seen one with Dip-switches before thats fascinating :) but googling the markings on the PCB does bring up another here

750P is Motorola's later version of the 750A, its die shrunk and runs at a lower core voltage :)

very cool! does Open Firmware/thus OS X report the 100Mhz bus speed properly too? :)
BTW with regards to the whole CPU clock speed thing, it would be interesting to see a 500Mhz 750L tried, those are fully 3.3V compatible, and share the same PVR as the first G3 CPU's so are fully OpenFirmware...
thats only needed because of how PowerLogix themselves setup their CPU cards with the first PLL at a slow speed, you could easily just set it to a higher speed on any 750GX based project you yourself design :)
Very Awesome work!, the Big purple and gold ceramic package 68000 slap bang in the middle of the board looks so incongruous, I love it! and I love this project in general :)
yeah the last of the PowerLogix BlueChip Pismo upgrades used 750GX's on interposers,
https://web.archive.org/web/20040531122101/http://www.macopinion.com/columns/roadwarrior/04/04/13/index.html
earlier ones did use 750FX's which you can see a physical example of here :)...
very cool to see you got this working! in some regards a full replica of the old PowerLogix 750GX Pismo upgrade :) did you ever manage to get the 7447A/7448 working with your interposer on the Pismo cards?
yeah my lasting memory from that ordeal was the amount of faffing about just to get a Darwin build environment up and running, it turns out for example you (or at least I could not) cannot compile this using an intel tiger install, has to be a PPC one (at first I used an intel tiger VM for ease...
Awesome! glad the swap itself worked :) have you tried it at 83.3Mhz just as a sanity check? its also worth making sure all your RAM is PC100 or even PC133 rated, as I imagine PC66 RAM might not overclock to 100Mhz, and also of course make sure the CPU multiplier is set so that 83.3Mhz or...
the problem with using existing G3 ZIF's is they have 3.3V L2 cache so you can only swap 7400's onto them, 7410's sadly dropped support for 3.3V cache
what would be neat is if someone came up with a modern ZIF design, I dont think it would be too much work in the grand scheme of things for...
interesting! so a 166Mhz 603ev CPU card *will* actually work in a 1400/117 machine but one might have to twiddle with the card to get it to work
so its not that its fundamentally incompatible then, which is what i was wondering about, because again there are much faster G3 upgrade cards for the...
