    Two G4s in a beige!

    Thanks for the advice!

    Two G4s in a beige!

If it takes too long to get a XLR8 MPE card, I may try a 500MHz SONNET ZIF G4 CPU in the secondary socket.

    Two G4s in a beige!

He was just speculating on the cause, but there are issues fitting G3 CPU’s into these cards.

    Two G4s in a beige!

According to the manual, the molex adapter needs to be connected whether running with a single or dual CPU. Here’s someone else had issues with a 300MHz G3 CPU from a beige system in an XLR8 card:

    Two G4s in a beige!

I haven’t tried it with the Yikes CPU yet. There was a issue with the shipping for Germany, so the order was cancelled. I tried to get it to work with a G3 in the second slot. The machine posted, and gave the gong and the Happy Mac image, but the OS wouldn’t come up. I was attempting to run the...

    Two G4s in a beige!

I’m still running my G3 beige with a single CPU, but today I decided to see if I couldn’t get the installed CPU to run @ 500MHz? I’m happy to report that the overlock was successful and it’s now running @ 501MHz!!! (This is screaming fast for a Beige)

Apparently you get better performance if you slot an MPe CPU in the secondary slot, but apparently the CPU’s from other vendors work as well. In the case I’m going to be trying a standard Yikes CPU. Ideally you’d want to slot another XLR8 Mach Speed MPe @ 450MHz, but they seem to be extremely...

    Two G4s in a beige!

I'm still waiting for the second CPU to arrive from Germany.

Restoring a Power Mac G3 Beige Mini Tower

In the mean time I've reduced the speed of the XLR8 Mach Speed MPe CPU to 400MHz, and I've set the dip switches on the Mach Velocity card to hopefully give me 400MHz on the secondary CPU. (I think that the system would be more stable if I clocked it at 400MHz, as I don't know how stable the...

Restoring a Power Mac G3 Beige Mini Tower

Let's see if I can get it up and running, by either reducing the speed of the already installed CPU down to 400MHz to match this one, or overclock this one to 466MHz to match the one that's already installed. This CPU's coming in from Germany, so it's going to take at least a month to get here!

Restoring a Power Mac G3 Beige Mini Tower

I just purchased this G4 400MHz ZIF card to try in the secondary slot on my Mach Velocity card:

My 21" Apple Studio Display (Blueberry - CRT) Restoration Project

I currently have the monitor setup with my G3 Beige, as it's running OS9.2: The Apple USB Display Service Utility only runs in OS9, and I now have it installed, allowing me to make fine adjustments to the screen when I get around to giving it a full tuneup in the future: After running the...

My 21" Apple Studio Display (Blueberry - CRT) Restoration Project

This morning I refitted the base to the frame, as it's easier to do without the tube being installed, but still need to complete the cleaning of the yoke with canned air before I reinstall the tube. My new Flyback Transformer and Horizontal Output Transistor also arrived this morning...

My 21" Apple Studio Display (Blueberry - CRT) Restoration Project

Finally, a look at the colour calibration board: (You have to remove all of the other modules before you can remove the module which carries this board) The collection of cleaned parts: This is as far as I can go with the dismantling for now, as I need a long T-15 screw driver, which I've...

My 21" Apple Studio Display (Blueberry - CRT) Restoration Project

I managed to purchase a 21" Apple Studio Display (Blueberry - CRT) locally for $133. I'm willing to go through the process of troubleshooting this unit, as these things are extremely heavy and it would be expensive as well as risky to import one due to its size and weight. I plan on pairing it...
