Would someone with a Quadra 700/900/950 be willing to test a program for me?

It is random. I do see $0000 most often. And while repeating version 1, I also got $01FE and $01AC each on one occasion. Yep, you're correct!

And I also see slight differences across OS versions. 7.1 gives: And 7.5.5 yields:

Here's version 2 on my Q700 (with 7.6.1). Note not matching Callan's this time:

    iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 20" - ideal version of OS X?

If you want to be able to run PPC binaries with Rosetta, stick to Snow Leopard. I've got nothing against Leopard (I wrote bits of it) but SNL is superior. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMac_(Intel-based)#3rd_generation:_Unibody is useful. That's quite a capable machine (iMac9,1 with Penryn...

What to do when your Power Mac boots to a “forbidden” symbol

Get http://www.applerepairmanuals.com/the_manuals_are_in_here/PowerMac_G4_mirror.pdf If you’re lucky, the PMU needs a reset. If you’re unlucky, the PSU may indeed have given up the ghost. They’re prone to failure. Mine did and needed a partial recap. They run hot and a number of caps are...

What to do when your Power Mac boots to a “forbidden” symbol

Get a disk utility listing of all drives from the command line "diskutil list". That'll tell you what the organization is (partitions, volume types and sizes, etc). You may need to run First Aid to fix-up some volumes .. but start with the listing.

What to do when your Power Mac boots to a “forbidden” symbol

If boot fails earlier, not finding a boot drive, I'd expect the ?-floppy icon. If the booter fails or possibly if the kernel panics early, the circle-slash results. A verbose boot will say more. A safe-boot may be needed if kernel extension caches are corrupt. If you don't have any luck with...

What OS is it running? If OSX, boot verbose (cmd-V) to get more clues.

    Skipping the Startup Memory Test

As a footnote to disabling the boot memory test... On my beige G3 mini-tower running MacOS9.2, the memory test comes and goes mysteriously. It seems to return spontaneously. It may be that it's enabled by booting into OFW which I frequently do to boot other OSes. Perhaps XPostFacto is involved...

Mac IIci with a working Quantum HD

If you have more than a minimal amount of RAM, an alternative ROM is a good idea to skip memory tests on boot that can take an age.

A/UX 3.x install on IIfx hangs

Concerning memory .. I don't know about the IIfx but on my IIci, A/UX 3.1.1 is picky about RAM organization. When I put 64MB in Bank B, it ignores it. With 4MB in Bank A, it will use only that, reach single-user but then get stuck swapping. With 1MB in Bank A, it hangs launching. I have to put...
