Look at what I just installed into the rack at work:

Inside revealed:

Installed but not yet powered up at the bottom of the stack:

From top to bottom:

Rose UltraMatrix KVM (x2)

Xserve RAID

Xserve G5

Xserve G5

Xserve G4

Xserve quad-core Xeon

Xserve quad(?) core Xeon. Or are they up to 8-core yet.

In the background are a stack of H-P Proliant DL380s, older ones on top, "G5" models with 2.5", 10K RPM SAS hard drives below and in between are a pair of SAS DLT tape drives. Price of those DL380s is surprisingly reasonable.

nice. I can't tell you how long I have been trying to hunt down an original G4 xserve for a little experiment, but they are still quite expensive. Imagine, a mac with a PC serial port!!

-digital ;)

The third Xserve down appears to have a slightly damaged slot for the CD/DVD. Can I have it? [:D] ]'>

Who do you think gets first dibs on retired equipment? [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'>

Why do you think I take such good care of the company equipment? [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'>

(BTW I wasn't the one who wrote the IP address in felt tip marker)

I noticed that warped slot one morning, but it didn't look like anyone had an accident, so I don't know what's up with that. One of these days, I'll just super-glue it back.

Nice... XServes sure are drool-worthy. Awesome score though. Remember, when you leave. ask for all the old equipment as a parting gift :p
