I bought these two Lisa disks on Ebay. Maybe for later use when I restore my Mac XL…

This is what the buyer told about the disks:

APPLE LISA 2/MAC XL TOPS NETWORKING SOFTWARE!

Here are two (2) TOPS Networking Software floppy disks which I believe are for the for the Apple Lisa 2/Mac XL computers. All I know about these disks (which came from a long time Mac collector) is the TOPS was a inter-networking software suite to connect PCs, Macs and UNIX systems that was acquired by Sun Microsystems. There are two disks marked 1 & 2 and on the back they are marked "TOPS for Lisa". The disks look to be in excellent condition. This is all I know about this software so please bid accordingly and it is being sold "AS-IS" with no returns.

Disk number 1 contains among the following: Softtalk, TOPS Key, TOPS Prep, Start TOPS, AppleShare Prep, AppleTalk, TOPS, Interbase, TOPS DA, Responder and TOPS Help

Disk 2 Contains TOPS Translators
How can I check if the disks are OK? I don’t have a Lisa to do so. Is it possible on a Mac?

I don't know if these are MFS or not; if so, you'll need to go a ways back in Mac OS to be able to read them. Just fire up your Mac Plus and it'll be able to. Old Macs with built-in floppy drives should be able to read it. The older, the better. ;-)

Hi,

in my opinion, before doing anything else, you should save the contents of the disk to an image using "disk copy 4.2". this can read and store Lisa disks in a safe way. You should then write the images back to blank disks and use the copys. This way nothing can go wrong.

To use disk copy 4.2 you can use nearly all vintage macs with a disk drive.
