Third party server for classic AIM

I just found out that someone has created a server that allows ancient AIM clients to connect and chat:

It should be noted that the reason why AIM was abandoned was that the authentication method is not secure, so keep that in mind. That being said... it's just chat and probably noone uses this anymore, just a cool nostalgic blast from the past.

If I can ever find a library that implements the OSCAR protocol, I would like to write a middleware that interfaces the AIM client with something like facebook messenger or signal, and can be run on a raspberry pi. I started doing that three years ago by reverse engineering an AIM session pcap, but it was kind of a mess, and life got busy.

That is pretty cool. I still have installers for OS9/early OS X AIM that I could install the software and try this out.
