I bid on a 12in powerbook G4 listed as a 867MHz 320GB HDD 1.25GB RAM Parts not working

I didn't expect to win it since I only bid $0.99. It took two weeks to get here but it does work the case is in alittle rough shape, I plug in my charger hit power and to my surprise it powrered right up! Sounded like it is trying to start off a disc but loaded to leopard. Seems to have a DVD stuck in the slot loading drive. I go to About this Mac and I nearly hit the floor its not the 867MHz 12in Powerbook G4 its the 1.5GHz 12in Powerbook G4. Works great other than the stuck disc.

I have an another slot DVD from a broken ibook G4, I was looking over at ifixit and you nearly have take the entire thing apart to change the drive out. So until I can sit and do all that I just disconnected the ribbon cable.  Will post pictures later

I'm currently using a 1.33 GHz 12" G4, and it's quite nice (though a bit slower and smaller than I'm used to).

And please nobody yell at me about security! I'm fully aware of the risks, and I'm keeping it offline most of the time (except now, obviously), and I am considering installing Debian on it, so that it's more up to date.

In the meantime, I have disabled all sharing services and enabled the firewall (better than nothing, right?)

I will get a better machine, like a new MacBook Pro or new-ish Non-Retina Macbook Pro, *eventually*.

I'm running Debian Lenny on it right now. I knows its not the most recent release but it does have one thing newer releases don't a program called mac-on-linux. Mac on Linux is a virtualizer for PPC like vmware or parallels is for Intel so one of the cool things is that it will let run OS9 at near native speed even on unsupported machines.

Sweet! Here is my score of the week. I have been buying up snow iBooks of late as I'd always had a hankering for them. On Monday, I got 3 additional ones for $20 from a Craigslist guy - lots of short semi-unfriendly e-mails back and forth, was kind of touch and go but he came through in the end. School ones, but more used by administrators as they were very clean, good hinges, etc. One 500mhz one nearly pristine, two 800mhz that have cleaned up well, two decent batteries. I already had power supplies. I've been loading 10.4.11 on them and getting them generally trimmed up for use, adding additional RAM so Tiger will run well. The deals are out there- you just have to be patient!

Just checked on the battery thing. IBook and white PowerBook batteries have the contacts more in the center of the battery edge, 12" albook have contacts at bottom edge. Also mock my tabs and grooves are in different locations.
