Software/hardware optimization (7200/90)

Hey folks, I’ve been trying to see what my options might be to get LucasArts and similar games working as smoothly as possible on my PowerPC machine and curious what advice people might have. Here’s the current setup:

PowerPC 7200/90
48mb RAM (I think, need to double check)
L2 cache card
No logic board VRAM
ATI XClaim GA equivalent video card that shipped with later models/non-retail w/ 2MB RAM
OS 8.1
BlueSCSI V2

Running a game like The Dig the sound is pretty choppy and the game nearly unplayable. Monkey Island (1 & 2) have really bad sound issues with speeds all over the place/missing sounds. Some other games have similar issues, but not as bad…

Curious if I should change OS, add VRAM (not sure if that actually helps), or try something else. Thoughts?

Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle and The Dig all run fine on my 6100 with 7.6.1, onboard video and sound.

Try a dual boot/downgrade your OS to 7.5 - 7.6; the later the OS I find Lucasarts titles have more issues with sound and lag. Turn off VM, turn off smoothing in game, try stock video over PCI.
