I have an SE/30 with a soldered CPU, and found a Daystar Digital 40Mhz accelerator - which obviously needs a socket!
I'm comfortable with re-working PCBs, and have a desoldering gun that should make short work of removing the existing 68030 from the board - along with a new Mill-Max socket. Even with that taken care of, however, it looks like the SE/30 socket may need to be fairly tall (images below, with all credit due to the original photographer) - certainly taller than the socket I have - and otherwise much chunkier, which I suspect is required in order to clear the surrounding components.
Has anyone tried desoldering their SE/30 CPU to fit an accelerator?
