Self-Liberation

Well, I made a trip to my storage room today and brought back some goodies. The only thing I haven't found yet is my box of IIe LC-PDS cards. I now suspect they may be in my own basement somewhere... I know of one installed in an LC which will end up going to, appropriately enough, to LCGuy. I got Trash80 a nice looking LC III and an LC II with some funky fading. The NIC and power supply from one will go to uniserver. Nothing has been tested yet, but I opened everything to at least make sure a battery bomb hadn't gone off inside. I also grabbed a spare LC II and III in case of troubles found during testing.

For myself to play with, I grabbed by Performa 550 (Now an LC 575 w/PPC 601 upgrade, but I still refer to it as how I got it), a WorkGroup Server 6150, a Performa 6116CD (in case there's anything bad in the WGS, and I accidently broke the CD bezel before I got it out of storage...SpindlerPlastic strikes again! I did amazingly manage to swap the good bezel onto the WGS without breaking the delicate good one, and without breaking the rear case tabs! (I should be a surgeon! Or maybe I shouldn't gloat too much or I'll have worse luck next time...) I also snagged an AudioVision 14AV to go with the 6150 and 6116CD. I also found another AppleCD 300e tray loading drive with some paint scuffed off the top. I thought I only had one 300e and one 600e, and the rest were caddy loaders. I stand corrected. That may be offered up here once tested. Speaking of finding extras of things, I brought back two SE/30s with ethernet cards. I thought there was only one there. That makes three SE/30s in my apartment currently. All to be tested.

Then there's the other box of goodies. Apple Internet Router software, boxed. AppleShare Server 3.0, boxed. Apple LocalTalk Connector Kit, boxed. (Missing the connector itself, but I'm 99% sure there's one in the basement to complete it.) AppleShare Server 4.0 on floppy and CD. All the install media and paperwork, no box. Two "Don't Copy That Floppy" posters mixed in with the AppleShare software, new. And a sheet of four rainbow Apple stickers, although I have a huge stack of those in the basement already.

I'm getting tired tonight so I don't know if I'll get to any testing tonight. I'll be sending those expecting items shortly. I have to review who wants what in my PMs, so don't feel left out if I didn't mention you here, but we had been talking.

There was so much more I wanted to bring back. Don't worry pile of IIcis and IIcxs, IIsis, DuoDock and Duo 230, IIe, two Woz IIgses, II, Quadra 950, and other stuff I wanted to play with! I'll be back!

Once I'm testing I'll post some pictures.

Small update, been busy.

Both SE/30s boot to a blinking question mark. Their startup chimes sound louder than the working SE/30 I got from a friend and posted about here. They didn't want to boot from the burned 7.5.3 CD I burnt. I used a burnt CD with the other one, maybe it likes the other brand I have, or maybe I need to slow down the burn speed. Hopefully the hard drives are just blank. Worst case I've got tons of 3.5" SCSI drives I can donate to them, most probably larger than what's already in there.

The LC 575 boots but shows no video. If I give it a moment I can hit the power button on the keyboard, then return and it'll shut itself off. I'll play with that one later and make another thread if I get stumped. I do have a Performa 550 in storage (early caddy load CD, the one I'm working on has a tray loader) that may be able to act as a donor machine. As I mentioned this one started life as a Performa 550 and is my first Mac from Christmas 1995. I still remember sneaking out to the living room at about 3 AM in the dark and finding it sitting under the tree. I waited in extreme excitement for another hour or two before going back out of my room and screaming "MOM, DAD, SANTA CAME!!!" I'm sure my future kid(s) will someday return the favor for me...

I think the 14AV monitor may have issues. The 61XXs seem to boot but there's n video. The 6150 makes a horrible crackle instead of the startup chime. The 6116CD chime was loud enough to spook Mars, my orange tabby/computer helper as he was sniffing it for me while I set it up on the floor. I don't know if I ever booted these machines before, but I seem to recall the monitor working.

The LC III I grabbed for The Trash Man works fine and is an excellent example of a survivor. Need to check the floppy drive still. Also I want to update OT and AS to better test the network card. The faded LC II hasn't been tested, nor have the backup LC II and III I brought in case parts need to be swapped.

No pictures quite yet. I feel the motivation brewing though.
