Rehabbing a machine after battery damage

Now for the actual questions!

The second Classic I got from Aoresteen also has some interior damage, as expected, since it too suffered a battery disaster, but the damage is far less extensive than the damage to my computer.

What is the best way to remove corrosion? I've been using 99% pure isopropyl alcohol to clean the worst spots, but it's not removing everything. I don't know whether it is necessary to remove all corrosion to keep it from spreading or getting worse. I'm debating whether it might be worth picking up a new metal chassis (don't know how easy those are to find).

I'll need a new metal/foil shield as well, since neither machine has an intact shield. (Well, the one from mine might be salvageable, but it is horribly bent as a result of having to wrench the two pieces of the case apart. I never did get the corroded screw out, despite drilling halfway to China.) Are there good sources for such parts, apart from ebay?

I'm thinking about saving the two damaged mobos to practice cleaning, soldering and recapping, though I don't know if it's worthwhile to practice recapping on motherboards that may never work again. Any cleaning advice apart from the usual alcohol + toothbrush + dishwasher?

I'll probably think of other questions as I go along...
