After doing some motherboard cleanup on both (yes, I'll need to re-cap them both at some point,) I managed to get both my Classic and Classic II working again. The Classic also had a single wire loose on the analog board that I got back in place.
Bonus: In finding working hard drives for them, I went through every single one of my 50-pin SCSI hard drives.
6 IBM/Maxtor/Seagate drives, all but one worked fine.
Here are the seven Quantum drives. One stack is "dead drives," the other stack is "working drives." Can you guess which stack is which?
To make it even more humorous, I had one more dead drive of the "not Quantum" variety. After being disappointed at finding a dead non-quantum, I happened to see the logic board, and realized that "CMS" was a rebranded - the logic board prominently says Quantum. Oh, and the one non-Quantum? The Maxtor. (The company that bought Quantum.)
