This *RARE* 128K sold for less than $300 in an open auction on eBay.

In beautiful working condition, with original keyboard, mouse and cords, it also comes with the super-rare Apple soft carrying case and an original dust cover. Albeit this 128K was manufactured late in 1984, it is a fine example of both a collectable 128K and free enterprise at its finest when the market is allowed to determine the price without hype or misleading statements. AND, he offers reasonable shipping! I may faint.

Though this price is even too high for me considering that there is no guarantee it has not ben upgraded or that the floppy disk is still functional, however, it is a refreshing switch from Buy-It-Now offerings that start close to $1,000 seemingly because these things are guaranteed and offer a manual or disks.

Kudos to you john-n-katie, it is no wonder you are truly a Super-seller with well over 2,000 transactions!

From the rear panel view, that one looks to be unmodified. ROM and disk drive swaps are reversible, and a RAM upgrade should be treated as a common sense contemporary enhancement.

WRT carrying case: I've been looking at photos of these over the last couple of days, and still can't work out what colour they are supposed to be. Depending on lighting conditions, they appear to be grey, green/grey and even beige with tones of pink.

Glad to hear this - looks like I was in the "market" range with paying $250 last week for one locally.

As for the RAM upgrade, I opened up one of my other 128K Macs the other day and was shocked to see a 512K motherboard! Actually it's the one that can be configured as 128 or 512 but this one was 512. I had no idea it had been upgraded - no clue from the case. Apple sold a "memory upgrade" which was just a motherboard swap for the 128K.

Kudos to you john-n-katie...
My sentiments exactly. We need more vintage Mac sellers like this who offer nice equipment at reasonable prices. I also applaud this seller for refraining from using the word "rare" in this listing.

I love it when a certain seller we all know who has recycled in his name prices a LC I at 65$ and a LC 5200 at 500$ and a bad looking quadra for 200$.

Right now ebays mac prices are sky high and near the collapse point. Mac Hyperinflation.

Then there's this one with an $850 starting price, plus shipping.

I have to wonder if these sellers check completed items before they list?

Also, he uses a phrase which has been turning up in a lot of 128K/512K auctions: "Light beige patina". Not a phrase I would normally use to describe the case of an old computer, unless it were once a different color, which suggests the seller is influenced by some of the high dollar sellers on eBay, both in price and content.

This one is ending in 3 days. I'm not interested but figured I'd pass this along .
Actually, that's a Classic and your earlier one was a Color Classic. NOT the same animal. Classics rarely fetch anything close to a Color Classic and I have rarely seen a Color Classic fetch anything close to some of these inflated 128Ks. Either way, this is probably not the best thread for posting links to auctions about anything other than 128K auctions relevant to the discussion of prices charged for these early collectable Macs.

Also, try to use the URL tags to clean up your lengthy URLs. Basically the code is written like this in the edit box (without the spaces):

[ url = http: // ... ] eBay link name [ / url ]

This isn't that surprising given the fact of his title of the auction... If he would've said 128k w/ case it would have been MUCH more
