Question on buying Powerbooks

In two weeks, about 15 100series Powerbooks anda few Duos in that figure will become available to me. The cost is $10.00CAD (about $9.00USD) each. The are fair to good shape. They have batteries but no ac power. For the price, is it worth getting?

Grab 'em! By now most 1xx series PowerBooks have been thrashed like a stolen car, so if they're in good nick definately grab 'em. If you can find a good example they are nice machines...i have a mint condition PB180c here that i bought off bYrd a couple of years ago, and it is a wonderful machine.

Power adapters are harder to find than you might think though...

I wouldn't get them all at that price, as that adds up to a huge amount - maybe take a look at them and just pick the one or two in the best condition.

Yes!

A) if you're handy with a soldering iron, or you have a friend who is, then you can modify a PB to work with any 'standard' power supply.

B) at the very least you can rip out all the RAM, HD's, bezels, inverter boards and anything else useful and re-distribute - most likely making your money back (though you then have to get rid of the junk so please recycle or something)

oh yeah, and it's always a fun suprise seeing what you actually get. I got a "mixed bunch" of 500 series PB's once. One of them had a PPC board in it [] ]'> Out of 5 or 6 powerbooks I got 500PPC in excellent condition, and a 520c and 520 in pretty good condition - the rest was just junk.

It obviously depends where they're coming from, but you could see if you could do a deal for a discounted price if you take them all.

It is about a 5 minute drive, so there is no shipping costs. Going to buy them. They all work. Will keep some for spares, sell some and trade the rest.

I wouldn't call $150 to $200 a huge amount, when a single tested working PB100 in good nick with a PS will earn you that back in one sale ...

Seriously?! 8-o Anyway, for me that is still a huge amount where old Macs are concerned - I've never considered acquiring any Mac for anything other than free! If I did have $200 to spend on Macs then I would much rather have one iBook than an unlimited number of trashed 68k PBs with no adapters though. But maybe that's just me

Get them all. That lot is worth it even if all you wanted to do was strip them for parts. You'd get a lot more than the asking price for them parting them out.

Word. Build up a couple of working ones to suit your taste, and ebay all the parts. Question of space, time, and inclination, though.
