Hi all,

I have a Quadra 700. Everything seems to work, except that it has one quirk. Whenever I turn it on, it starts up, gets to the smiley Mac, and then immediately restarts. On the second attempt it boots to the desktop and all is OK.

Does anyone have any idea what hte problem might be?

Just for the record, it has 20MB RAM and no PRAM battery. Everything else is completely stock, AFAIK. I have tried it with and without its internal hard disk, and booting from a zip drive, and it makes no difference.

i think its because its switching resolutions then restarting as they are not being saved into PRAM.

Hi all,

I put a new PRAM battery in the Q700, and the double start-up has stopped.

It remembers the time, too :)

BTW, the battery in the Q650 still works. Is there any point changing it before it stops working?

Thanks,

D.

No, it's blue.'

The new one in the Q700 is a purple made-in-Israel Tadiran.

The original Q700 battery was a red Maxell, which I whipped out as soon as I could. I am thinking of keeping it in a jar and waiting for it to explode :)

Yeah, I got one of the purple Tadiran off eBay myself a few years ago for my LC :lc:
