  • I recently installed an oscillator socket to my Quadra 700 and swapped the 50MHz crystal oscillator for a 66.6666MHz oscillator to bump the CPU speed up to 33MHz. I also added a 820-0562-A Apple Power Mac Upgrade Card which I can now run at a more reasonable 66MHz.

Curiously one of the Sonnet cards sold this past July on eBay for $500 as seen in these photos.Daystar Sonnet 601 Front.jpgDaystar Sonnet 601 Back.jpg

The thing I found interesting is that the Sonnet Presto PPC branding is simply a small paper sticker on the rear of the card; the board itself is OEM Daystar. This seems to indicate that Sonnet simply sold remaining stock and/or parts left over from Daystar rather than releasing their own bespoke variant.

That's a little disappointing as I'd hoped to see the trademark purple heatsink on one of these. It does however simplify eBay searching as the Sonnet version will likely simply be listed as a Daystar card as this one was.

I don't believe the unicorn level DayStar PowerPro with RAM Expansion was offered by Sonnet in any form.
