Powerbook G3 Kanga

FINALLY! I've wanted one since new. This was impossible.. I think I was 9 or 10. I didn't have $6K. If I was able to buy every single mac I wanted back in the 90's, my parents would have had to sell all the cars, house, dogs, anyways! I'm using it on the forum right now and it's a blast! 5GB IDE/64MB RAM. It included a ton of things, some for 3400 (box, discs). It was purchased at a mac repair shop in Highland Park, IL. It shared shelves with a TAM, lime iBook and an eMate 300. A Macintosh TV and cubes lurked around and a cube case was even being used to store candy. Neat little place! Anyway, grabbed it all for 50 bucks!

It is borrowing the back port cover from my 190cs which fits snug

I'm trying to figure out what the vents are for on the screen. Or is that exactly what they are? Air vents?

The base has a crack near one of the "Peg Legs"

Maybe some epoxy is in order so long as it doesn't interfere with possible future upgrades

Edit- (using more modern equipment)

Very nice Kit and packaging, you got a great deal. I finally got one too, but it was a boobie/booboo prize from an eBay seller who "couldn't locate" the G3-1400c I'd purchased.

Sweet machine! To answer your question, yes, they're air vents and it also has the first ever, teensy-weensy, PB cooling fan under the TrackPad too . . . or was that the 3400?

edit: thanks for the correction and information, JB.

The vents are for the speakers - no doubt you've noticed how good sound is from the 3400/Kanga, easily the best sound I've ever heard on a laptop. Kangas rock BTW - solidly built, speedy, impressive screen, much better than the "Mainstreet" Powerbook which replaced it.

i would love one of those!!!! But of all of those models, the 1400 will always have a soft place in my heart! (But all three of them managed to disappear on me... Two were stolen and one was given to a friend and she never used it.)

Nice find. The Kanga was always one of the Macs I wanted when I was growing up as well...got lucky and bought two of them locally a few years back and I've been pleasantly surprised at how useful they are despite their age.

Very nice machine you have there! And yes, Byrd is right - the 3400 and Kanga actually have two teensy-weensy subwoofers (sick mate, sick) behind the LCD - thats what the vents are for. :)

I'm gonna see if my 20GB HD from my Lombard G3 will work in it since it sits dormant in a storage bin. Then gotta try Soundjam and turn the bass up hoping the speakers don't fall apart! Finding 128MB module seems like it might be NOT fun but glad to at least have 64
