pop tops seem to make good spacers for 2.5" 10k rpm HDInstal

When installing these modern scsi drives in vintage macs, a couple pop tops and some goop hold the hd nicly, I was using modified Stand Offs, but pop tops work much better.

wow awesome, they seem to have the slightly different mounting on the side and bottom as the normal 2.5 inch laptop scsi drives.

Maybe you could make some up and sell them, I could drop your name to them.

If you could send me the measurements, I could give a try. I could also make a universal bracket with holes for both HDDs.

Edit: Even better yet, if the HDDs are the same width, I could just make grooves. Then you could slide and position the HDD (either one) with or without an adapter. Would make positioning a lot better.

Send me a broken one if you have it. I'll ship it back when I'm done measuring. I have a 2.5" SCSI drive in my LC, so I can use that one for measuring for the SCSI drive.

The mounting screws will be on the bottom correct? Like any other drive? Or will it mount from the side? Only computers I have to test this on would be a IIci or LC.

I tossed that junk drive out. And it was broken because of my feeble-minded fault. Tossing it inside an LC for shipping WITHOUT mounting it down or packing it with some absorption material. WHoops.....

I have a caliper, Tell me what measurements you want. Ill measure them.

Also I think the datasheets of these drives are in the cloud floating around. Waiting to fall down as rain. I think they have a drawing diagram/footprint in there.

Hmm, I would like totally get one of these! I got one of uniserver's drives, but it's sitting in a drawer because a) I haven't had the time to deal with it, and B) I don't know how to install it in such a way that it won't move freely about the insides of the case (which worries me, because I don't want it to get damaged).

School's out in a week, so maybe I can start tinkering with it a bit over the break...

I may be missing something, but using the measurements from Western Digital's website, here's a quick mockup:



Fairly simple. Mounting grooves for old Apple 2.5" SCSI and modern 2.5" SCSI. Gives you about a 1/4" leeway either direction so you can line it up with the SCSI adapter attached. So 2x of these brackets and you can mount them onto a 3.5" laying flat.

I'm going to need to think this through if we want a single adapter that'll also work for mounting it mid-way like in a standard 5.25" drive bay. This simple bracket would only work if it's bottom-most drive or when put on a HDD sled.

Other things to consider is how thick to make it when considering vertical room, and if making it extra long for maneuverability would make it too long for the HDD cage in computers like the IIci.
