I recently purchased two parts Pismos 400s that I have combined into one. I am not sure what I am going to do with it now that it is done (eBay, maybe), but I have a question about the process.
One was in good physical shape, and the other not. The problem with the one in good physical shape was that it refused to recognize anything more than one drive, hard disk or optical. The other machine was so badly beaten up that it came to me held together with tape.
Having fiddled ad nauseum with jumpers, cleaned the optical lens, tried known-good optical and hard drives from another working Pismo in the one I was trying to fix, all to no avail, I bit the bullet and swapped the logic board from the beaten up parts machine into the other. It now works fine, though it killed a couple of hours to do.
Question: Why might the original logic board have refused to recognize two drives? Any ideas?
