PB100s!

Yes. But don't rain on his parade yet. Bunsen is savvy enough to know the star-crossed joys of extreme archaism, and with the 100s specifically, as opposed to the rest of the 100 series, it is extreme.

PB100s are very cool - lighter, smaller, and just a little more removed from the present day than all other PB1xx series - very collectible IMHO. And there's gotta be a way to hack in a new battery somehow, yes? Lots of non-computer items still use lead acid cells.

So Bunsen, how much did you pay for them - or were they true liberations?

Yeah, they're neat little beasties. I prefer the keyboard on these to the Duos. I personally have three or four of the 100s, but only one works. Two have some random problem that I've never diagnosed properly, and the third looks like someone squished it, causing the trackball to crush the screen (there's a giant, permanent pink blob now).

But yeah, good luck on getting those! They're hard to find in good shape. And let us know if there's a way to rig up a new battery.

Re: battery - will do. I'm thinking an SMD NiMH charger IC and a home made AAA NiMH pack. That or finding the smallest lead acid I can.

BTW first hurdle - how do you get the battery out??

Couldn't you theoretically find a wall wart with the right voltage, hack some metal pads, and stuff the pads onto the contacts of the PB100? Probably screw some serious stuff up if you try and charge it but if you leave the charging contacts uncontacted then it might work

Bunsen - those little ridges on the bottom right hand corner slide to the right. You will probably have to apply more force than you like. Press inward and out to the right with your thumb.

It could be that the battery has bulged a little bit and that is why it is so difficult to get out.

And, if you figure out how to make a battery for this thing, please let me know!

I should be getting 2 of those and a powerbook 145b from the friend that gave me my powerbook 150. I can't wait!
