OS 9.1 freezing when copying from usb

I don't think regular 8.1 had it because one of the big deals of 8.5 IIRC was added USB support.

You probably can copy the extensions from iMac 8.1 or use the restore media, but a question is whether or not those extensions support generic USB cards correctly and whether or not. I don't know if that's been tested, but the absolute worst thing that'll happen is "nothing" or I suppose "the machine crashes"

Turns out this machine is just screwed up in general. I'm gonna shove it in the back of my closet now and give up for the moment

Huh, now this is weird. I have another Mac clone now, a Power Computing PowerTower Pro, that has the exact same issue. Except this one gets stuck at the same place every time

Replying to an old thread, but this sounds exactly like an issue I had on my 5400. It was an extension conflict, don't remember which, but for some reason USB copy just didn't like a certain extension being enabled. Go through the process of disabling all extensions then re-enabling only what you need and see how you go.
