Old Compact Flash GPS: 68K/PPC 'book possible?

Hi all,

I've been very lucky with receiving some nice gadgets recently (LC475, 6100), and now a Compact Flash GPS unit: circa ~ 2000, which fits quite nicely into a generic CF --> PCMCIA adapter for use in my 540c (yes, PCMCIA adapter equipped!) or 2400c. The unit is also compatible with Newtons but there really isn't much in the way of good software available for it, but I'll still try it too.

Of course since I'm into bush walking and geocaching I'd like to see how it fares with this. Has anyone used a GPS on the 68K/PPC Powerbook, and if so what applications did you use, if any are available?

Thanks

JB

Does it have a serial port? Does it transmit NMEA formatted data? If so, you could probably find 68k software (or, if worse comes to worse, you could make 68k software) to handle that GPS unit.

There may be a serial port internally between the GPS IC and another IC which handles the transactions to the CF slot. I saw a hack somewhere that successfully extracted serial NMEA data by tapping that line.
