Macintosh IIVX and important lesson

Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to get a near mint condition Macintosh IIvx for my collection. I don't have one of those until now.

Down side is that I learned that Spot Shot carpet stain remover works EXCELLENT on grease pen markings by the thrift store. Learned that WD-40 works TOO well. Now the black inking of the IIvx text is faded a bit...

WD-40 works great on many things including the oil based inks that apple used :disapprove:

But it's in great shape minus the feet and has 16megs of ram and an 80meg hard drive, and the cartridge based 2x scsi internal cdrom. The fancy cd rom label is nice though... has the standard compact disc logo, Quicktime logo, an PhotoCD logo on it right beneath the slot.

Heh. I've used WD40 to rescue a favourite T-shirt that got mussed up during emergency car repairs.

Next time, cover up those important labels with painter's tape or something to avoid removing them

No doubt!

If you ever have used SpotShot! Carpet cleaner and stain remover you probably know how incredibly wicked and powerful that stuff is. When it proved safe on the labeling I was surprised.

It wasn't as powerful on grease pencil as I would have thought, so I figured WD-40 would be good on the grease but still not as destructive as SpotShot... Boy was I wrong.

Definitely going to tape over stuff next round.

The unit however is still is great shape and it filled one of the few holes in my Mac collection to date.
