$5,400 US??? Jesus!

I don't really think it is worth it at all. My entire collection cost less than half this, and I get a lot more enjoyment from it. I'm sure it is valuable, but I couldn't justify it when it was $1,000. I know the buyer probably didn't buy it for its usefulness though.

Yep, I couldn't believe it myself. It's amazing how the price just skyrocketed overnight. Definitely a die-hard collector with too much excess revenue to burn (although that fellow I e-mailed is going to sleep pretty well tonight- $5 518.26 CDN for a partly working computer is some pretty damn good coin!) :beige:

The amazing thing is that if one person paid that much for it, then there was another person willing to bid slightly below that for it. With automatic bid increments, Ebay's price is slightly above what the second highest bidder is willing to pay.

Unless, of course, there was a shill at work...

Well, according to the bid history, there were a few other buyers interested in the MacColby. So my correction- there are always a few die-hard collector(s) with too much excess revenue to burn. Happy?

Regardless, the bidding is over. To state that shilling was involved, well, that is one hell of an accusation, which was definitely not the case in this auction. If there were, I would assume that the bidding would be halted (and someone would lose their rights to buy/sell on eBay).
