2GB DDR2-667 FBDMM in 4x512MB config - seems to be as shipped from Apple; added 2x2GB modules for a total of 6GB.

Shipped in September 2007 - according to shipping label on box

Both were purchased as a bundle. Both boxes are the original boxes - matching serial number on the label and all. Why am I so anal about little things like this?!

It will make a good counterpart to an SE/30 with box that I bought last week, but hasn't been shipped out yet.

Same here. As much as I do love my G5, Lion coming out next month means that Leopard is going to start seeing less support, and every day more and more Apps are becoming Intel only. Seriously not cool as the G5 is still a really powerful computer and people are still out there using Pentium 4 POS systems with better app support than my dual processor 64 bit workstation..

If you had a dual processor 64-bit workstation, you'd have a Mac Pro. [] ]'> Apple marketed the G5 as "Desktop" for some reason. Even though with a little bit more help it really could've been workstation-class computing.

In my anecdotal experience, and in benchmarking, most Prescott and Cedar Mill chips hold their own against the G5s. It may not be the system you immediately look to for your huge batches of photoshop work (although I'd be comfortable doing that on a Northwood with 2gb of ram or newer) but definitely useful for office/Internet tasks, even if a newer/smaller computer would do it more efficiently (less electricity.)

As one other fun sidenote, I definitely almost bought one of the original Mac Pros when they were new. I was aware that at some point I'd need/want to go beyond a desktop or laptop in terms of computing horsepower. Trying to figure out how to come up with the money to get one nearly drove me crazy that year, until I just ended up getting an iMac. (which was a very nice computer, one of my favorites, powerful enough for what I was doing at the time, and just generally a lot better than the PPC Macs I'd used up to that point.)
