The 10-minute timeout with EasyShare Demo is a HUGE bummer!
I saw some talk in another thread about this 36khz watch crystal inside the Classic Mac. Without it, the machine should still start up, it just will not keep time.
But hey, isn't not keeping time is a good thing when EasyShare Demo times out every 10-minutes?
So, would this relatively easy hardware mod solve the timeout issue and turn the 512K into a perpetual server?!!
Here's what I've found out about the 10 minute limit.
EasyShare on the Mac 512K doesn't stop serving after 10 minutes, it just drops the connection. You can establish it again by mounting it from the chooser on the bridge machine. That got me thinking on how to get around it, so I wrote an Applescript that mounts the share from the Mac 512K, un-mounts it after 9:55 seconds, and then re-mounts it.
Functionally, it worked, but I did notice things acting flaky after a while. I never used to it much after writing it, since I can usually do me tests in 10 minute intervals.
I would love to hear any other ideas that people have to bypass this. The guy that wrote the app still lives in Arizona, and I wonder if his number from the about screen is still good! He's also on LINKEDIN, but I'm not a paying member, so can't email him. Would love to know if he has a full version, or a workaround for the demo.
