Lets make a deal. Looking for somebody with a 580CD!

So I'm practicing my recapping skills on a mainboard for a 580CD. Only problem is, I don't have a 580CD to test it in, but I'm curious to know if it works or not!

Would somebody with a 580CD be interested in testing it for me? You can keep the board and I'll even cover shipping. All you have to do it pop it in your system and let me know if it works or not.

Would the more experienced members be able to give an idea of the risks involved here?

Is there a real possibility of destroying anything like a processor, RAM/VRAM/ROM sticks, PDS cards or PSUs with a badly/incompletely capped mainboard?

Good question. Though just to be clear, the mainboard provided will include all that stuff, so nobody has to risk their own components.

Recapping is a pretty straight forward task unless there is severe trace damage. if you want to practice then pick up a bunch of 90s boomboxes, alarm clocks and the like that you know work and practice swapping out the components and seeing if it still works as well as troubleshooting if it doesn't. 90s consumer radio stuff still had allot of through hole soldering and you can get ones with similar build quality for cheep. Its almost certainly cheaper than shipping things back and forth and you keep the goods in the end. you can also practice on pentium 2-4 motherboards which will be good (albeit less durable) analogs for recapping mac boards.

Cool! I'll finish the capping job and then give you a shout once it's done so I can get a shipping address. Thanks!
