My friend of 3 and a half years died on the 13th. He was a good cat, but he had fatty liver disease which came on really strong. This is a cat who would eat a LOT and he suddenly stopped... he had to be put down.

So my other cat Batman:

was lonely and bored so I went over to the Ames animal shelter to get him a new friend...

His name is Sonic - after the hedgehog

Batman doesn't necessarily appreciate his new chum, but they're working on that.

Nice that you saved a cat at a shelter, so many need good homes.

Was the cat that died 3.5 years old, or much older and you only had it that long?

cats are cute, but after being around my friend's cats, I have found I am horribly allergic to them (Can't breathe around them, which I used to be able to until recently). I have a dog that we saved the humane society after a pet shop was closed down for having parvo run through it. A lot of the dogs had to be put to sleep, but luckily our dog wasn't hit with parvo. rather instead, he had an intestinal virus called "Coxcidia" or something.

It's unbelievable, but some of the bet pets come from animal shelters. They are the gentlest and most tempered. A lot of animals don't make it to the front (which is sad because it was mostly the former-owner's fault) but the ones that do are absolutely adorable.

Question:

Did they watch you and the cat interact before they send the cat home with you? did they have you bring your other cat in to be around the new cat?

They normally do that for compatibility and make sure the cat will be comfortable and not be alienated by other animals in the household.

How soon did you get to take it home?

Cats are the ultimate social pet...Smart,cunning,and more..They haven't changed much over the past 12,000 yrs...much like Dogs..who were at one time wild...My friend next door, rescued a kitten under a vacant house, where the mother never returned...little male..wild at first, a week later, was pretty much won over ..Now, when he sees her, it's purr city..and he likes to play and taunt my chihuahuas..(zontar, sabrina, columbia )

The kitty came back today, from the vet..neutered..BUT ALSO found to be suffering from that cat blood dis order...don't seem fair..

I recently had 3 pups outta five (july 2nd) die...sabrina's litter of skeletor powered pups, skel being the dad. I gave one away today, and still have one left..a little girl called TWONKY..Twonky got de-wormed, and her first set of shots for parvo, distemper, etc..

Twonky also likes to sleep inside the quadra 900 case....a true mac dog!

Cats are great, though my cat has trained me... My room is in the basement with a window a few feet off the ground next to the front door... If he wants to come in he stares at me through the window until I get up and open the door for him. He also can open a locked door (With one of those simple hook and loop locks)... Smart cat. He also enjoys sitting on my stuff: http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb271/benjgvps/IM000920.jpg

The cat that died was 3.5 years old. I had him since he was a month old.

Batman is running at about a 16mhz 030 (he's a little slow)

Sonic has a 100mhz 601PPC :)

I enjoy male cats in that they are:

1) Relatively low maintenance

2) Don't need constant attention

3) Affectionate when treated properly

Female cats tend to get crabby in old age

My new housemate's cat has all but abandoned her to come hang out with me. He's curled up in a grey fuzzy ball beside me right now. He's my new bestest friend.

ha no offense but sonic looks like he is a stoner in that Picture.

heck when they are in their lazy mode thay all do.

i had a Japanese bobtail ( i loved that cat) but she got lost during a move and haven't seen her since. she was smaller then a normal cat but she was feisty and sometimes mean and crazy. but she had her lovable moments, when she got tired of you petting her she would let you know to stop it.
