Introducing Myself

I recently joined this forum because my SE/30 needed to be recapped, and Google sent me here. After signing up, I got in touch with a gentleman who was able to put new caps on my board in a very timely manner, and now my SE/30 is working once again. This evening, I even used iCab to get online with it. :beige:

I got into compact Macs around 2001 or so. A guy from work needed a cheap printer and I had one. He offered me an SE and a 512ke in trade. I ended up getting a few more SEs and a Plus or two before I bought this SE/30 off eBay about 10 years ago. I added a bit of RAM (it has 20M now), an Asante ethernet card, and an external 20SC hard drive case with a 1G drive in it. The hard drive case elevated the machine to a more comfortable viewing level.

About the time I got the SE/30, I found a 200M Syquest drive at our local Goodwill for $2. When I was using this machine regularly (2002-2003 or so), I've had the Syquest drive, a Zip drive, a CD-ROM, the external HD, and a Syquest EZDrive hooked up to it at various times. Other things I have (or had) hooked up to it are an ALPS Glidepoint trackpad and a Power ON (? turns the computer on by pressing the power button on the keyboard) power strip.

Currently, it has a newly recapped motherboard, with 20M of RAM, an Asante ethernet card, and a 1G internal hard drive. (I bought a new desk at some point and don't need the extra height of the HD case any longer) I'm using a design keyboard, and the Glidepoint trackpad, along with that Power On thing. I have an external Syquest 200Meg cartridge drive for backups and a ton of stuff I don't need clogging up the HD. I'm running System 7.1 with quite a few extras from 7.5, though I do have System Picker on the drive with systems 6.0.8, 7.0, and 7.5.3 on the machine.

My plans are to add my G4 or possibly a G3 B and W to the network to use a games machine for our daughter, and a means to get this machine onto the network. Our other Macs (a mini and a Macbook Pro) are too new to run 10.3.9, which I believe is the newest OS that Sharepoints will run on.

Anyhow, this is getting a bit wordy. I look forward to learning about what's been happening with Compact Macs in the last decade and picking up where I left off.

NIGHT STALKER
Welcome aboard. It's always nice to hear about older machines being folded into more current setups, especially when done so for the kids.

. . . and an external 20SC hard drive case with a 1G drive in it. The hard drive case elevated the machine to a more comfortable viewing level.
I'd say "useable" viewing angle, without a tilted plexi stand or ZFP, there wasn't anything I'd call comfortable about the height of the Mac's display. ;)
