Apple printers are a world I'm not too familiar with, so I'd like some advice on setting it up and maintaining it.
Yesterday I received an Apple ImageWriter II from a fellow 68kMLA member. The printer works fine with my 1991 Macintosh Classic, which already had the ImageWriter driver installed. The print quality isn't too bad, though I noticed there were some ink "smudges" on the paper. For my first question: is there a decent way to load the paper so that it's not crooked and the margins are correct? Or is that just something you have to deal with, like on a typewriter? I don't have tractor-feed paper, so I have to feed a sheet at a time.
Second, the ImageWriter II won't work with my SE. It just prints out a line or two of garbage when the "Select" button is turned on. Turns out, the SE doesn't have the ImageWriter II drivers installed - or at least it doesn't show up in the Chooser. Where can I download the drivers? Tried searching the Macintosh Garden but couldn't find anything too helpful.
Third, is there anything I need to do to maintain my new (to me) ImageWriter II to keep it running happily and healthy? I'd like to get some use out of it.
Lastly, is there any way to date the ImageWriter II? I noticed the serial number (on the bottom) is in a different format than the standard serial number format for the computers. (I'm guessing this is because it was made for Apple by C. Itoh.) Is there any way to get a date from the serial number or is it arbitrary?
