I recently bought an iMac G3 to give to someone. When the computer is on for a while (About 30min-1hour), the backside gets VERY hot (Like touch it and it burns, especially if you are touching metal). I have already modded it by installing an internal fan to help keep it cool, but it still gets pretty hot. I had to set an external fan behind it to deal with the temperature. Even though the bottom side got cool with the fan, the top half right around where the clear vent is still hotter than it should be. I can feel the heat from inside of the computer without even touching it just by having my hand over the vent.
What more can be done about this?
BTW: The heat seems to be coming from the CRT, although other parts are affected as well. When I unplugged it, the tip of the power cable was hot as well as the metal prongs on the computer. The motherboard seems to be doing fine. The HD/CD drives are slightly hot, but not as bad as the screen.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
