IIcx question

I have just recapped a IIcx as a small diversion ($4669 with ONE glorious MB RAM and NO HARD DRIVE back in 1989!). Yup.

This was a machine that I acquired about 6 yrs ago and that I basically haven't touched beyond discovering initially that it would turn on and then shut off randomly on being plugged in. Repeatedly.... However, it's now very happy again, with everything working as Nature and Jean-Louis Gassé intended. I have it kitted out with period Nubus cards and it is humming along — a very pleasing outcome. It is surpringly fast in System 6.

The next question is what to do with it. Is there anything interesting about the machine? I reckon it is likely a tiny bit of a rarity, as it is the IIci that gets most attention and that is mostly preserved, so that is something.

A/UX version 1, perchance?

Well there's a guy on either LEMSwap or LEM Vintage Macs who is perpetually looking for IIcx stuff to keep his CNC machine going. No other Mac will do for the control system. Perhaps you could investigate and obtain one of those CNC machines? :)

I think it would be cool to have a CNC machine driven by a Mac IIcx, but then, I think it would be cool to have a CNC machine....

Yes, I can see my wife's face now as the truck backed in the driveway.

In an effort to avoid my inevitable fate were such a vehicle to arrive at the door, then, I'll take a peek at the guy's request. There are worse fates for a IIcx than keeping machine shop tools running.
