How to fix this distortion on the display? Picture inside.

Had to purchase this tube as a replacement for my original. I have recapped everything but now it has this distortion on the left and right of the image. I've never used the tube prior to recapping so im assuming it's something with the tube itself.

How do I fix this? Do I have to adjust the yoke? Does the require loosening both clamps to do or just the rear one? The yoke makes me super nervous but I figure if I discharge and loosen the clamp or clamps with power off maybe I can just turn the yoke with the nonmetallic part using a non metallic tool. Or do I need to adjust something different?

There are some magnets on the yoke that adjust the geometry of the tube. I would assume snce the top right is out if alignment you'll need to adjust the magnet that is in the same quadrent. (I.e. the one on the top left looking fro the rear of the tube)

Are you talking about the same bulge on the left and right sides about middle ways in the image that I am? Just verifying since you said top right

Sorry. Just noticed that. I would try to push the yoke a little closer to the tube if you can (with the power off) and see if it will straighten it out. You can use the magnets to adjust the corners, but I would try and make sure your yoke is in the right position first.

Awesome haha. Didn't want to insult you just making sure! Do I need to loosen both clamps to move the yoke? Also, the little board on the neck of thebCRT that plugs into the analog board is the one from my old tube. Would that affect it!?

Well messing with the yoke, see also scaring the sh*t out of myself, seems to have not corrected it but I did actually getting it a bit more leveled out as far as positioning

The neck board just supplies the grid, heater, and gun. It won't effect the geometry of the tube. Also before any yoke adjustments let me verify that you've tried horizontal / vertical adjustmets first. Since this is a different yoke from your original it might be a little different (doner yoke might have a different impendence from the original). Make sure you've tried everything else before doing this. Its easy to put back to how it was originally, but why do it if you dont need to (plus accidents do happen) The attached pic is the loosening stap for the yoke. Make sure to take it off the neck board before you try adjusting the yoke (to prevent said accidents). As long as your old tube looked fine this one should too. The magnets should probably be a last resort. I didn't realize they just stuck them to the the tube (just looked at mine). Don't force it. Loosed the strap and slowly move it left /right to break tension (it will be stuck tonthe tube from years of being in the one position tightened down) Also make sure you put it back in the same rotational position. If your picture looks rotated you'll have to loosen it again to rotate it back.

Just read an article on compact tubes and you should be good on yoke compatibility, but since you changed your caps I would definetly verify the vertical and horizontal adjustments first.

I'd adjust the vertical and horizontal size via the analogue board, screen is a bit too big.. Check your 5v as well. then fiddle with the yoke magnets in the middle on each side. The easiest way I have found to get the screen size and aspect correct is to use the black and white squares background you can set in general in control panel.

I've basically tried a little of everything thing you recommended. I think this is the best I can get with my skill level and fear factor lol. I think the biggest thing that helped the bulges was actually turning the cutoff way down because if you cranked it up it got worse.

The last thing I can't seem to impact at all is the pull up on the bottom middle. The bottom magnet doesn't seem to affect it. And the rest of the image actually looks better in person than in the slightly distorted pics

Use the vertical adjustment and see if you can make the image a little bigger. It should drop the center down.

Got it! It's not perfect but I'm no expert. I'm very happy with the outcome however! Thanks for the help!
