Guss 1.7 or newer wanted

Hi,

I am in the process of setting up my apple 2GS, and was informed I really need to get Guss. I have been unable to locate a download. Is this available somewhere, or can I get a copy form someone? from what i remember it was free to d.l. back in the day before Nathan removed the site.

Anyone have any experience with a CF reader in the GS Thoughts?

I have a apple HS SCSI card I am planing to use with a Ext HD but the more I think about it CF might be a better long term choice.

Wow, somehow I managed to post this up 3 times. My apologies, not sure what happened. Is there a way for me to delete 2 of them? or can a moderator do it.

I should have a copy of GUSS somewhere in my collection.. I'll see where that is.. GUSS or GUPP? Wasn't that called Grand Unified Program Patcher or some such by Nathan Mates? Either way I'll look. There was a GUS that was a IIGS emulator as well.

CF on a IIGS is pretty neat. I bought two of the early rev Compact Flash boards from

http://dreher.net/?s=projects/CFforAppleII&c=projects/CFforAppleII/main.php

And haven't even done the 3wire fix for larger or non Sandisk CF cards to them yet.... They are AWESOME!!!

It's great to boot up from the card and not have to deal with SCSI on my other machines, or have it as backup on my main IIGS.

Rich Dreher is currently working on the advanced CFFA card now and it looks even better with USB support as well. Can't wait.

Well, I've looked and I if I ever had the 1.0.7f1 that was the last known version released it died a miserable death in the great hd crash of Christmas 09.. I lost about 300 Gigs of my collection that day literally 5 mins before my first ever AIT-2 full backup was to kick off. (Even when I try to do the right things).

At any rate I located 1.07 regular and it's located here in the cabi.net archive.

If happen to know the location of 1.07f1 that would be great to find too. I had it back in the day directly from Nathan Mates when I was hanging with "guys" during my college days at Ohio State University.

If there is a 1.08 even which I heard of later on but I can't say I have ever had that would be great to have for posterity as well. Looks like it's finally time to scour my old CD's and floppies of GS stuff and put the collection online or something.

Any luck finding them?

Found it with no issue when using the full name. No luck in finding a newer version. A buddy of mine believes he has a newer version on his GS, but it is in pieces at the moment.

Need to do a little more surgery on a Mac SE30 to free up a EXT SCSI enclosure that is destined for the 2GS. I did a HD install to a "hacked" external enclosure with system 6.00 and the system appears to be operational. Just need to decide what parts to use in the GS and if I should sell some of the parts that are nice to have, but I would probably not use. Just need to move the 6.01 images to my old mac and make some floppies.

So far this is what is going to be baseline config for the GS box

Rom 1

Transwarp GS

Sirrus 8mb ram board

Apple HS scsi card Attached to a 160mb HD I think I will partition 4 ~30mb prodos, and the remainder as HFS. but still learning the ins and outs.

2 5 1/4 and 2 3.5 drives.

Zip drive (I think) heard there are some termination issues or something (more research needed)

Things I have, but not sure I would ever use.

Apple Video Overlay board

AE Audio Animator

Quickie Hand scanner.

Very Very Nice setup for a IIGS you have there.

On the Zip drive as long as you make sure the normal scsi chaining for termination is in order you will be fine more or less. There's a chance you will have to make the termination power mod to the high speed scsi card OR use and ACTIVE terminator on the chain so that it provides external termination power for the device.

Definitely keep the 8mb card, scsi card, and the transwarp. Consider getting the upgrades from reactive.com as well for the twgs and really boost it's speed.

If you want to get rid of the Overlay card and Audio Animator let me know :)

Those actually still fetch decent prices on Ebay too. You can always use the Overlay card to watch tv on the GS too when the card is hooked to the output of a vcr or a dvd tuning recorder. That and a vcr, and A 1084S monitor was our TV setup in college for the entire time I was there. Worked well.

Please update too if you find 1.8 of that addon. I still can't find anything newer here in my archives of what is left.
