Getting my LC III on the internet!

I need help getting my LC III on the internet.

I setup internet sharing on my Vista laptop, and it works fine on my iMac.

I put iCab on the LC III and plugged in the ethernet cable and when i try to use the 'net i get a "Network error #-23009"

I looked it up and discovered:

error -23009 insufficientResources: 64 TCP or UDP streams are already open.

Any idea what that means? restarting didn't help.

What you need is a PDS ethernet card. It allows an ethernet plug to directly plug into your computer. The processor direct slot is the white or black socket on the left side of the computer (take the top off so the motherboard is showing).

I would recommend system 7.5.5 for this to work smoothly. In addition I'd recommend the AsanteLite PDS card - as the one I have understands auto negotiating and should work fine when connected to a switch. I have another one - an Asanta MCLC - and it doesn't understand auto-negotiation (it expects a 10Base-T connection as this was before 100baseT existed). To get it to work, I had to buy a 10BaseT only hub and connect that to the switch - and the pds card to the hub.

Also you'll need to install Open Transport 1.1.2 - as 1.1.1 won't cut it.

I'd also recommend downloading Shareway IP - which will allow your MacOSX machine to communicate with your LCIII via appletalk through ethernet.

Another hint of advise - I had to manually set up my ip, subnet mask, gateway, and dns server (set as your modem's or router's ip). The computer would for whatever reason not negotiate these settings automatically.

If you have any questions - write back!

I didnt need that extension to connect to my iMac.

But oops: i forgot TCP/IP...

Do I want to connect via AppleTalk or Ethernet? My AppleTalk is set to EtherTalk, so i'm not sure.

Yup that is normal. Those are the days of 'click on a link and go make dinner, and it may be done when you get back'.

maybe I should make it 33mhz...
Even so, it would still be pretty much the same speed at web browsing. Try turning off images, java and animations. Should be much faster then.

To be fair, my Performa 6100/66 works fairly well for web browsing. I can even use gmail from it, using netscape 4. And it's only 66MHz.
