I have a G4-500 with a zip drive. OS X boots on it just fine, but attempting to enter into open firmware by option+apple+o+f, results in the monitor going to power saving mode and no output after a few seconds.
Tried both the VGA and the DVI (with converter to VGA) ports on the video card, both behave the same.
Anyone know the video mode that OF uses? Or is it possible that the video card in my G4 isn't the normal one apple shipped and so it's not compatible with OF? I'm using a fairly old Sony 17" monitor circa 1995-1997 with it.
Also, is it possible to set OF to work via telnet by using the nvram command? Any way to check whether the telnet package is installed in my OF from OS X before I do that?
Sadly, the G4 doesn't have any serial ports, so I can't run it headless and access the OF via a serial port. It does have a modem slot, but no modem, and I don't have the serial port plug that would work in that modem slot.
