external superdrive idea

The SE's superdrive. If I swap it into an external 800k floppy enclosure, does that work as an external 1.44mb for the SE?

Yes, it is a direct swap, but this assumes the SE's ROMs have been updated or it is a FDHD model. It will detect as 800K in a standard SE.

yes it works, and its automatically backward compatible.

i have an Apple 3.5" here 800 ---> 2mb

aftermac was the one that motivated the project.

I guess FDHD externals are slightly rare?

Does it really require plans? Just take it apart, replace the 800 with a 1.4 and put everything back.

It's really that simple.

LOL! well no, that part of it is just the first step in a plan.

I think I am going to take the 1.44 out of the SE, put it in the external.

Then I think in the future I want to buy one of Uniserver's SCA drive+adapters.

I'm not real sure on how I want to go about it or actually do it though.
