Epson CX4200 printing issues

It looks as if the ink is almost gone, yet last week the ink was replaced and was used maybe twice to print a couple text documents and all is well.

Just today it's printing as if the ink is wearing out.

It was my printer at first but I gave it to my folks since I didn't use it that much and theirs went out. AFAIK the printer was turned off when not in use but it's possible the it wasn't a few times. Could the ink have dried out? I've cleaned cartridges as much as possible and I tired printing a heavy inked image, in theory to force any dried ink through the holes or something. MASSIVE line all over the place...

So my folks caved and bought the direct replacement of this printer(on accident actually) the NX415. It's fine but I took the cx4200 into my room to try and make it work again and since the scanner part still works just fine.

I know it's just a cheapy inkjet but still.
