Daystar PowerCache 50mhz 030

I finally got my hands on a Daystar Powercache 50mhz. 030 accelerator card. I checked the speed of the IIci unit with Apple Diagnostics before I installed the Daystar. I was surprized when I checked the IIci after installation. It showed it was actually slower in all but two tests?? The actual cpu speed and video were faster but all the other tests showed a 20% drop in performance?? The IIci had 8mb of ram. It has the cache card and feels faster without the Daystar?? The Daystar card does not have a FPU installed. I do not have any of the Daystar software. It is supposed to work by just plugging it in on a IIci Are there any tweaks I can do to boost the performance of the card???

You'll miss the FPU most for number-crunching, but the greatest favours that you can do yourself in the short term are to get more RAM, and to mosey on over here for the DayStar PowerCache 030 CP.

Vampire video occupies a significant part of your Bank A RAM space and time, leaving you about 7MB of RAM over for real work. Better by far to augment RAM to 32MB (at least) and use an Apple or Radius 24AC or similar video card. What display are you using? 4MB RAM cards are accessible here at a good price. Look closely at the 16MB cards while you are there.

With 68MB total you could run OS 7.6.1, which is responsive and quick at 50MHz.

It took a little while but I was finally able to download the PowerCache control panel. After installing it, the ci would not boot up. Stopping the boot sequence with a Bus System Error. I reboot with Extensions off. Adjust the control panel, but it does the same thing. There only a couple of options on the control board. I tried them, but no difference. The ci would boot up fine without the control panel.. It is running O.S.7.1. So what am I missing???

Do you have Open Transport installed for networking? I know my 68040/33 card has a fit if it is installed on my IIci (not sure if the older 030 Daystars are the same way).

OT is nominally functional on a 68030 Mac with System 7.1. It works far better with at least 7.5.3, having been made part of the System software from 7.5.2 onwards. Previously it had been a separate installation, for which v1.1.2 (still downloadable) was the last. Its presence is quickly ascertained by looking at your Extensions Folder for its five elements.

I did a few changes. Upped the ram to 20mb, soon to go to 32mb. Swapped in a different harddrive that has O.S.7.5.3 on it. Installed the Control Panel and it booted up fine! Thanks to some very informative posts, everything got figured out!!
