CPU swaps

Hi all,

I have a 400 Mhz G4 AGP. I recently had someone tell me that I can take a Mac dual 450 Mhz daughter board and plug it into my 400 Mhz AGP mother board and it will work...

Is that true?

Can I plug in any Mac dual processor (ie, a faster one)?

Will the installed OS X 10.4.11 still work?

That's only true on some of the Sawtooth logicboards. The logicboard needs to have a Uni-n8 code on it and I believe there is a utility that you can run on it to check and see if it will.

I have lost the link to the utility. perhaps some one here may know what it is or you maybe able to check on AppleFritter and find it.

The Sawtooth and the GigE logicboards both have the 100MHz Buss and the cpus will interchange as far as the single cpus go but for the Duals you will need to run the utility to be sure they will work properly.

The G4 DA's and QS machines run a 133MHz Buss. The G4 MDD's ran a 167MHz Buss. These CPU's are not interchangeable with the Sawtooth logicboard with out considerable modifaction to the Sawtooth logicboard and the CPU.
