before i sent this back to UNA_Lion, i figured i would take a before and after shot, so you can see how it looks with the Tants on there.

Another Classic II (Enhanced Sound), re-capped (tants)

This one had some lifted pads when I received it,

However, with some determination i was able to bring it back 100%, Tested, works great.

Nice work!

I'm after recapping my Classic II last week (bought it as "working" but turned out to have checkerboard screen) and now I read about this enhanced sound thing.

Could I have done anything different than replacing all caps with equivalent tantalums?

PS: Classic II works great now and looks like new inside too (there wasn't even a bit of dust anywhere when I bought it...incredible for a 20 year old).

This one I did with all oem stock replacements, except for the two 1uf 50v caps. I had a couple ceramic replacements left over.

I like the ceramics.

So far out of all the Classic's I'v done (I and II), They have all been fixed with scrubbing the corroded pads with wick, and Soldering on new caps.

I think my board finally needs recapping - put in a new CMOS battery tonight, she booted up just fine, but then went to checkerboard after a screen freeze. Anyone recapping the Classic II board for a fixed fee? I may do that, or just offer the old girl up for parts as I really can't use a Classic for anything but nostalgia.

Looks like… just because you have a "Enhanced Sound" Classic II.

Does not mean you are going to have that newer rev. 2 chip rom mainboard!

I have a Boxed Classic II here with the " Enhanced Sound " holes in the side of it, and inside the mainboard is a Rev.1 Classic II board with 4 rom chips. This machine looks brand new inside too, with the exception of the crusty caps… on the main board and A/B.

I doubt its ever been opened, its all original inside… 1992 pram battery and typical conner 40mb hd.
