Just collected a Bondie Blue Imac.(it was given to me)

Very dirty and side door is missing, but complete with the original keyboard, the "hockey puck" mouse and original power cord.

this is the 233 mhz, 32 Mo and probably 4 Gb hard drive version.(probably rev A or B, as the "mezzanine slot" is still present.

Mas Os 9.04 is running, but i will probably do a fresh install (and maybe put some more RAM) |)

Yesterday, i removed the bottom case in order to have a look at ram and clean some dust.

I had a message advising something was wrong with memory (32 Mo showing), so i removed the whole logic board assembly.

Two sticks were present, the upper one is 256 Mo and lower one 64 [?]

From a sticker, this Imac is Rev A, so a maximum of 128 Megs is officially supported.

removing the 256 stick won't change anything, as the 64 Mo stick is only showing as 32 :disapprove:

The other strange thing is, the HD is the 4 gigs variant, but Vram is 6 Mb and graphic is the Rage Pro Turbo found in the Rev B...so maybe the logic board has been changed at some point.

I should have a close look at the memory problem.

I'm lost.

I have removed the whole casing to clean the mess and remove dust.

Looking closer at the sticker, the Rage pro is standard and Vram too, so should be Rev B and not A (a sticker is showing this)

Any advise ??

Reset the PRAM and update the firmware. IIRC there is an update to the firmware of some kind.

The RAM issue could also be with poor quality RAM. If not correct, the RAM is often halved (64MB is a 32MB) or not read at all (not seeing the 256MB). If PRAM or firmware update does nothing, try different PC66 stick of RAM (some PC100 will work).

thanks, yes firmware upgrade was scheduled already:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1263?viewlocale=en_US

Will try to reset the PRAM, but apparently those Bondie Imacs won't support officially more than 128 Megs (for Rev A mostly, but i' m still trying to get information if mine is A or B) hence the 64 meg + 256 won't be seen by the Mac.

My Imac is the one with Irda, and the reset is on the side so should be A not B, but maybe i'm wrong.

I have a couple of sticks (but mostly Pc 100, and probably any of the 66 kind) ,i will have a try anyway as the logic board is still removed by now.

The original mouse has been cleaned too, already have one of those (blueberry) but did not remember the ball was two colors.

Just fyi, the Apple docs I remember said those machines maxed out at 192 MB, not 128, but.in any case those numbers are based on the biggest so-dimms that were available when they shipped. All trayload iMacs support up to 512 MB with the right modules. (The key there is "right modules". There are a multitude of threads out there describing the RAM upgrading peculiarities of those machines so I wont rehash it all here.)

The Apple service manual advise a max of 64 meg per slot for Rev A and 128 meg per slot for Rev B, giving respectively 128 and 256 meg for A and B.

But once again you are right

The key there is "right modules"
this is just a matter of finding the right ones.
i have a Slot loading as well, and i had trouble finding the correct modules.

I have spent a few hours cleaning up the keyboard (every part-including the casing-was removed, cleaned and refit)

Now is almost new :)

Did you upgrade the firmware, or just get the right memory sticks first time ?

The Bondi is on halt, being busy with other projects right now.

Will advise soon on process.
