BMUG PD Volume 1 circa 1988

Hi all,

Every now and then I have a go at finding old Mac shareware/freeware collections online. Today I was looking for the original BMUG PD CD Rom Volume 1 from around (or exactly perhaps) 1988. Anyway, not much luck except for this link which seems to indicate its held within a school district library system in the US?

Being several thousand kilometres away and not having any idea about school districts and their libraries, little chance that I'll ever be able to get to it. In any case, I thought I would post the link here just on the (extreme) off chance that someone understands the library system, is able to borrow and copy it, and then subsequently post it online.

Also, I will be buying a lotto ticket - probably as much chance of me winning lotto and flying over to sort it out myself as the above happening ;-)

I could have my school's library contact their library. Unfortunately school's out in less than a week, don't know if that'd be possible until the next school year. We might be able to pony over here and I could make a copy. Union City is pretty close to the school where I work, only about an hour away.

The library won't lend it to our library, I have to go there in person. However, the school shares the county public library, so I just need to go to one of their branches and I can take a look at it. Next time I'm down in that area, I'll swing by the library and bring my Pismo so I can make a disk image and preserve it.

Ask the library to send you an image. If it's not copyrighted, they might have somebody savvy enough to help you out.

NYMUG Compendia CDs were copyright free, we charged a fee for the media/volunteer dup time as a fundraiser. Very common for the UG community and fully permissible in the Apple scheme of things. Dunno if that has changed with the demise of the MUG connection or not though . . .

One thing that's worth noting is that the compilers of those archives often wrote to software companies or authors to get permission to redistribute stuff in that archive, but not always was permission granted for somebody who held a copy of the archive to duplicate it and redistribute it further. You will want to search for the appropriate copyright and distribution notices before imaging it and putting it online.
