Apple Reference and Presentations Library (ARPLE) CD Collection

Just a note that I’ve decided to start uploading my collection of original Apple Reference and Presentation Library (as well as Apple Reference, Presentation and Learning Expert - better known as ARPLE) CDROM ISO files to the Macintosh Garden.

It’s a lot of data and I had hoped to coordinate shipping a large hard drive to them instead of uploading, but I’ve sat on these discs long enough that they need to be used and enjoyed by everyone.

I have nearly all of them in my possession. Yes, I’m a data hoarder.

By the way, I bought that OS 8 one on eBay for laughs…did you have that one as well, or not? I forgot what you said.

I think mostly just marketing material. I can image it for you.
That would be great. Sometimes those things have info that are hard to find elsewhere.

Can you please upload it to the Garden as an .ISO and add the ARPLE to the title?

What page are you uploading to? I searched for ARPLE and found nothing. I imaged the disc and can upload now.

I’m actually uploading the images via FTP and then once done I’ll set up pages for them. I wonder if this one should be it’s own page, or ?

I’m likely going to organize the dated CDs (which start in 1992) in date-specific pages to group them together. Maybe create a page for “Apple Reference Performance and Learning Expert (ARPLE) 1997 CDs” (assuming that CD is 1997) ?

Thanks for doing this, there's probably all sorts of goodies and interesting tidbits on these.

You’re welcome. There are a lot of goodies, from HyperCard stacks, to graphics, to documentation and sales sheets, to even specialized software tools.

There were some custom Apple internal software apps that I found when I was looking through them last year for the A/UX project. One was a cool app, something like SCSI Cloner if I remember right, which did bit for bit copies of drives from one to the other.

I’ve never fully gone through all of them. That would be an interesting week of clicking and double clicking.

There are different versions too: internal, provider, partner, and reseller. The internal ones usually have extra software on them.

I also have a small collection of other Apple CDs that are being imaged and uploaded. Apple employees held conferences and retreats and they made CDs of the things that came out of them.

Also, there are CDs for “site-licensed” software. Software which Apple purchased or was given a license to use, worldwide. They sent these CDs to employees all around the world for use. Some of the software on those hasn’t been uploaded to the garden, either.

After all, what good is a collection of CDs if they’re just in a bin in someone’s basement, as opposed to being uploaded for others to find and use the treasure within?

I have uploaded a large batch and they have been linked to the pages. I am providing easy links below for the ARPL, ARPLE, and other internal / employee Apple CDs as well:

If the search links above fails to bring them up, you can find them by searching for:
ARPL
; and
ARPLE
(respectively)

Some are just updating from the back end so it may be a couple of hours for them to show but as of this post most are up.

Going through my collection of Apple Information CDs (physical and images found online).
Some interesting finds so far:
  • The 1992 Technical Information Source (TIS) version 3.0 contains copies of System Tools 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 as 400k image files, and also has international installation files for 5.0, 6.0.7 and 7.0.1 (Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Taiwanese, Arabic, Chinese etc.)
  • The 1997.12 v.2.5 Service Source CD set contains PDF copies of the The Tech Info Library (TIL) files up to that date (searchable using a pre-created PDF index on the CD). Very useful now that Apple Support has removed those files.
