Apple //c Platinum?

Anybody know if this is an elusive Platinum //c (NOT IIc Plus)?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260204475337

I have read that the //c went Platinum at the same time the IIGS was released in '86, 2 years before the IIc Plus was released. The problem is I have never seen a Platinum with a 5.25 drive. Then again with lighting and yellowing on the pictures I've seen I wouldn't really know. I've seen some pretty beige IIc Pluses and I know they are Platinum.

But this one is interesting because, not only does it look like it's in good shape, but it is a complete matching system shot together in the same lighting. It appears to have two Platinum Apple 5.25 drives that match a Platinum ImageWriter II and whatever that monitor is (it appears to be the AppleColor RGB introduced with the Apple IIGS, but I don't know Apple II monitors that well – could it also be the Color Monitor //c?).

If these were the older beige Unidisk 5.25 drives they would stand out darker even against the off-white of the //c & early ImageWriter II.

Anybody shed some light on this?

Sorry - but that's a standard white (fog) Apple //c. It is a different colour to the monitor, drives (which have also yellowed) and printer.

The monitor is the Color Monitor //c . There was both a fog and a platinum model (with a different name to match the //c plus) it is hard to tell from that photo which monitor they are selling - looks more platinum.

Sorry :)

Well this one has to be the fabled Platinum //c with a 5.25" disk drive:

The coloring is very much similar-looking to the eBay listing. Lighting is everything, but if it shipped in May of 1988 and the IIc Plus came out in September '88, I seriously doubt any of the Fog //cs were still being packed new – a year and a half from the alleged "memory expansion" color change date.

Like it or not, that is the Platinum //c, or there never was one.

In both cases the colour of the IIc is noticeably lighter than the platinum peripherals. Methinks you need to calibrate your monitor ;-)

Hello All,

Time to clear this up... I recently purchased a sealed in box A2S4100 (Memory Expandable) Apple IIc as well (I'm not the Flickr guy, I got mine around XMAS). I too opened the sealed unit as it was screaming to be liberated after all those years ;) The color is "Fog" as ALL Apple IIc's were. Apple never made a platinum 5.25 drive IIc. My IIc was made after the IIgs came out and after the Mac line went platinum. Apple continued to make the original IIc in the "Fog" color until it EOL'd. The color change that DID occur was in the Keyboard Keys, Power Cords, and Disk Drive door which changed from a Khaki or Tan color into a gray color. I'm pretty sure these changes came about co-incident with the A2S4100 "Memory Expandable" IIc model.

Does anyone have one of those 9" monitors on a stand? You'd probably go blind trying to look at one of those things today.

I've got both the 9" IIc monitor and the stand for it. Unfortunately the stand doesn't have the bar that goes through the bottom of the IIc and the holes in the stand to hold it in place. I'm pretty sure you could get away with using some other sort of substitute.

That image above there makes my head swim so hard and fast....oh..there it goes. It brings back so much innocent child memories....* SIGH *

The one thing I loved alot about the Apple IIc is the sexy LEDs...looking at that green soft power LED on gives me the grin of a life time.

That IS ANOTHER REASON WHY I LOVED APPLE II period.

Not at all... the Monitor IIc is an exceptionally crisp display. Probably not all that popular with gamers, but for programming, word processing etc I find it much better than the bigger A2 monitors.
